Why a Beach Vacation is Good for Your Health

beach vacation

As much as we would all like to drop everything and take a vacation right this very minute, we somehow always manage to come up with every excuse under the sun as to why we can’t. Truth is, there’s always going to be a reason why now is not the right time to take a break; work commitments, money, social responsibilities – you name it. To quote Lemony Snicket, however, “If we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.” Now that doesn’t exactly sound ideal, does it?

If you ask us, you should be making a conscious effort to plan a beach vacation right now. In fact, did you know that being at the beach is actually good for your health? Here’s why:

Being Along the Coast Relaxes Us

Just looking at the water, sand and a beautiful sunset subconsciously calms us. According to one study, people who are shown pictures of nature exhibit more activity in the area of the brain that is associated with “positive outlook, emotional stability and the recollection of happy memories.” What’s even more, photos of the coast in particular trigger feelings of wellness and being near the water has shown to make people 5.2 percent happier.

Water Rejuvenates a Tired Mind

Constantly feeling as though you’re running on autopilot? A drip in the ocean may be just what the doctor ordered. In a study that measured the attention, motor speed and attention of college students who were exposed to more urban views, those whose dorm room windows overlooked trees and a lake performed better. Not only did it recharge their minds, but it restored their ability to focus.

Blue Soothes

As the world’s favorite color, blue actually stimulates positive emotions. When we see the color blue, neurotransmitters that are associated with feelings of joy, wellness and overall euphoria are actually released throughout the body. It also causes us to feel less tired and claustrophobic when we’re surrounded by this particular color.

Don’t believe us? Well you may just need to test the theories for yourself by booking your next vacation to a relaxing beachfront location!
