The summer may be coming to an end and the kids may have just gone back to school, but it’s never too early to start thinking about planning your holiday vacation. Anyone who has ever waited until the last minute to book a flight during prime holiday travel time will tell you how frustrating the whole process can be. Not only is it extremely difficult to find a flight in general, but when you do find something, the prices can be absolutely astronomical.
So if you’re hoping to get some R&R or fly home for the holidays, when should you plan to book your flights? Well according to the booking experts at Skyscanner, those looking to catch a flight for Thanksgiving should book three weeks out, near November 10th. It’s around this time that ticket prices will reach an all-time low of 4.3 percent savings.
For Christmas and Hanukkah, you’ll need to start booking much more in advance. In fact, according to the experts, the best time to book domestic flights for these particular holidays is 12 weeks ahead of time – which is just in a couple of weeks! October 6th-12th is when travelers can find ticket prices at 13.7 percent below the average for the holiday season. You’ll have until one month before Christmas Day to purchase tickets at a below average cost before prices begin to skyrocket.
If you’re planning to travel internationally during this time, you should make plans to book immediately. According to Skyscanner, the best time to set up flights for trips abroad is actually 20 weeks before Christmas. Though we are well past that time frame, there are still plenty of opportunities to find international flights that are priced at a below-average cost.
It’s not just the holiday season that you should be proactive about either. As you’re browsing the internet for the best holiday travel deals, do a quick search for summer vacation prices as well. If you plan to visit one of the many Seaboard Hotels in either Rehoboth Beach or the Outer Banks during the 2015 summer season, keep in mind that the prime weeks of June 15 – Labor Day Weekend fill up well in advance. In fact, top weeks in July and August often sell out by early March, and holiday and special event weekends can book up a whole year ahead of time!
So what are you waiting for? Skip the last-minute stress and book your trip now!
