Whether your family is looking to learn more about the first flight or is looking to explore the mysteries of Roanoke Island, there is a historical site that you will love right near our Nags Head location.

Here are just a few of Seaboard Hotels’ favorite Outer Banks museum destination.

Fort Raleigh National Historic Site

One of England’s first settlements in North America, Fort Raleigh was inhabited from 1584 to 1590. Located on Roanoke Island – just 15 minutes from our Surf Side Hotel – the site is home to monuments and trails for guests to explore while they learn more about the areas rich history.

Roanoke Island Festival Park

Also located on Roanoke Island, Roanoke Island Festival Park is an interactive space that families with young children will especially enjoy. With an adventure museum geared specifically towards children, a settlement site, Native American village and 16th century ship, your family will have a blast playing as they learn all about the area’s history.

Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum

Learn all about the Outer Banks’ maritime civil war history with ever-changing interactive exhibits and lecture series at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. Looking to get your young children excited about history? There is even a daily scavenger hunt on site that they will love!

Wright Brothers National Memorial

Head to nearby Kitty Hawk, North Carolina to see the very spot that Orville and Wilbur Wright first took flight! Explore the Wright Brothers National Memorial, visiting the exact spots they took off and landing, seating yourself in a model of their flying machine and learning more about their achievements at the site’s visitor center. Children can even pick up junior ranger booklets at the front desk for a one-of-a-kind site experience.
