Delaware Beaches are Open

Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach Safety

We are happy to announce that Delaware Beaches are open, including Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach. Some restrictions are in effect for the beach, as seen in this sign. Additional outdoor restaurant seating, pedestrian walkways, and more have been added to help with visitor safety.

“We are where we are because Delawareans listened and stayed home,” said Governor Carney. “While we are slowly reopening our economy, it’s critical that Delawareans not rush out and undo all the hard work they’ve done to get us to this point. Let’s continue to be cautious and responsible as we ease our way into this new normal.”

Rehoboth Beach

Restaurant Seating and Merchants

As of June 1, area retail establishments, restaurants and other businesses opened at 30 percent of stated fire capacity with social distancing requirements and other public health guidance in place. You’ll also notice more outdoor seating when you visit Rehoboth Beach. Also, merchants are allowed to use up to three feet from their storefront to display wares. And business sidewalk usage must take into account ADA and social distancing requirements. Read more here…

New Walkway

The new walkway will be located in the first two blocks of Rehoboth Avenue on the north and south sides. Median parking will be available. This area will remain open to two lanes of traffic in each direction. The Bandstand circle will remain open to vehicular traffic with 30-minute metered parking. The new walkway will be ADA accessible and ADA parking will remain. Delivery, public transportation, and emergency vehicle access will be maintained. Installation of the perimeter with jersey barriers began on the north side of Rehoboth Avenue on May 29th, and the south side May 30th.

The walkway is anticipated to be in place through July 31. The city staff is also working on a future plan for a pedestrian walkway on First Street between Baltimore Avenue and Wilmington Avenue. The commissioners determined the new walkway was necessary to allow visitors and residents to enjoy the expanded use of the sidewalks downtown while social distancing. More here…

Parking Meters

The City of Rehoboth Beach parking meters and permits went into effect May 30th. Metered parking is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with all meters having a maximum of a 12-hour limit. Meter rates are $3 an hour on Rehoboth Avenue from the Boardwalk to Fourth Street, Baltimore, and Wilmington Avenues from the Boardwalk to Second Street and First Street from Baltimore Avenue to Wilmington Avenue. All other meters in the city are $2 an hour. Parking & Walking map here…

Meters are payable by ParkMobile, quarters, and credit cards. All 30-minute spaces and accessible spaces require payment during the parking season. Further info here…

Dewey Beach

Restaurant Seating and Merchants

Like Rehoboth Beach restaurants, many restaurants in Dewey Beach have reconfigured their table layout to help with social distancing. Visitors are encouraged to continue wearing face masks, and adhering to all safety measures to help everyone.

Sidewalks, Pedestrian Crossings

Visitors will also notice some sidewalks have been widened throughout town, along with bumped out corners and painted brick walkways at some intersections. Pedestrian flashing lights have also been installed at major crosswalks and will be in effect soon to help alert drivers of pedestrians crossing.

Parking Meters

Parking Meters are in effect from 10am to 5pm and 11pm to 2am, Monday through Wednesday. And from 10am to 2am Thursday through Sunday with free parking in all permit and meter spots from 5 to 11pm, Monday to Wednesday. Meter rates vary per hour throughout the week. ParkMobile and kiosks are available. Read all signage very carefully, especially since parking in Dewey Beach is limited.   See the Dewey Beach Parking guide here…

Public transportation is available and encouraged.
